Artist Statement
In the past couple of years I have been experimenting with a few different techniques, particularly large-scale collage. The process begins by placing the chosen material directly on a photocopy machine. Once the images are printed, I produce transfers by adding medium to the xerox. When dried, I wet and remove the excess paper from the back. I am left with very thin sheets which I cut, layer, and glue to the canvas.

The work is mostly intuitive and spontaneous; there is no sketching or premeditation. The material dictates the shapes and color. The process is physical and interative. Hours and sometimes days are needed before I settle on an idea and I find myself constantly battling complacency. In my everyday research and learning, I look for eccentricity with the intent to expand my creative boundaries. I find the process difficult, humbling, and exciting.

Background
Angela was born and raised in Colombia in an Italian family. In 1977, she moved to Carrara where she attended the Accademia of Belle Arti for four years under the guidance of distinguished professors like Bruno Munari, Pier Carlo Santini, Getulio Alviani and others. The culmination of her studies was winning a major competition that allowed her to show her work at Palazzo Strozzi in Florence.
In 1983 she traveled to Boston where she decided to pursue another degree. She spent two years at the SMFA focusing on Graphic Design and participated in the “Fifth Year Competition” before graduating in 1986. For a few years she worked as a graphic designer and as a freelancer in the area.
After taking twenty years off to raise her kids, she returned to the art world with a focus on painting.
In 2016 she rented a small studio in Dedham where she now devotes her time to experimentation and her art.
Angela’s work has been selected in various shows in MA and has won several awards. She belongs to the Concord and the Newton Art Association, the Marion Art Center and the Mosesian Center for the Arts.
